(Jacksonville, Fla.; Jan. 11, 2005) – Crowley Maritime Corporation announced today that Rinus Schepen has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of Crowley Logistics and John Hourihan has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of Crowley Liner Services Latin America group. Both longtime Crowley managers, who are switching positions with each other, will remain domiciled in Jacksonville and continue to report to Tom Crowley Jr., chairman, president and CEO of parent company, Crowley Maritime.

Schepen had run Crowley’s Central America liner shipping operation since 1991, and Hourihan had run the company’s logistics business since its inception in 1998.

“Each of these gentlemen brings a wealth of experience to his new position,” Crowley said. “I am confident this new arrangement will encourage a broader view by both our liner and logistics business units of the developing commercial opportunities in Central America. As such, their transition will add value to our customers with an expanded awareness of all of the Crowley service offerings in the region.”

Schepen joined Crowley in 1987 as a vice president in the company’s former European liner services operation. He became vice president of Central America services in 1991, and assumed positions of increasing responsibility within that service trade lane over the next 14 years.

Prior to joining Crowley, Schepen worked for more than 20 years in various aspects of the shipping and transportation industry. His broad international experience includes assignments in the United Kingdom; Luxembourg, Germany; the Netherlands and the United States. He is a native of the Netherlands and is a graduate of St. Jozef College in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands. He also earned his MBA at Accounts College in Rotterdam.

Hourihan also joined Crowley in 1987 as a vice president in the company’s former Far East shipping operation and later relocated to The Netherlands to head Crowley’s former European service. He became vice president of national sales for Crowley’s liner services organization in 1990 and was later promoted to vice president of sales and marketing. In 1994, he was appointed vice president and general manager of the company’s former South America liner services, and in 1998, he was chosen to lead Crowley’s new logistics company.

Prior to joining Crowley, Hourihan was director of Far East services for U.S. Lines. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas.

Crowley Liner Services and Crowley Logistics, both headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., are subsidiaries of Oakland-based Crowley Maritime and are part of its liner segment. The corporation, founded in 1892, is primarily family- and employee-owned, and is engaged in worldwide logistics, liner services, contract towing and transportation, energy support services, ship assist and escort services, vessel management and petroleum and chemical marine transport.
